I had the opportunity and the pleasure to see the film "I Am Evidence" at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was very empowering and informative. Mariska Hargitay's work is admirable and inspirational to me. This documentary raises awareness on the importance of Rape Kit testing and ending the backlog. It highlights on victim blaming and perception. I thought this was important because some people don't realize the impact or effects sexual assault may have on the victim. More women will most likely speak up if they didn't feel ashamed or ignored. There's always help available and someone to listen without judgement. The women in this documentary are truly the voice for survivors showing tremendous courage and strength!
"I AM EVIDENCE tells the story of four survivors whose rape kits went untested for years, following them as they navigate their way through the criminal justice system and learn that so often, the system is broken. The film reveals the historic nature of the way we treat the crime of sexual assault in this country, and the positive effects that occur when perpetrators are held accountable and survivors are given an opportunity for healing and justice."
